Slovácko once again did not manage to win on their home ground against their direct competitor for promotion to the top league, and surrendered to Marila Příbram 0:1, the only goal of the match being scored by the Brazilian player, de Oliveira, with a header from one of the corner kicks in the second half of the match. And thus they missed the path to advancement to the top league, missing by a proverbial hair’s breadth, because Opava lost in Jihlava 2:3.In any case neither team had any certain knowledge of what they needed to achieve or even whether a victory would guarantee their promotion. But, though they didn’t know it, they actually did both have everything to play for. The match in Jihlava was in fact progressing exactly in the manner which Slovácko’s fans hoped for, however, after the final whistle, they all had to drink from the bitter chalice of disappointment, presented to them by observing the celebrations of Příbram’s promotion. The first half was dominated by the home team, who several times managed to penetrate the famous Příbram defence, but just as in the whole spring part of the competition, their finishing was not their strong point. Chmelíček, the best scorer in the team, did not convert his chances; additionally Gonda and Šultes turned down other opportunities. Also the linesman’s flag brought Slovácko to a halt several times. Retaining control of the ball did nothing to help them. And because Marila were virtually toothless during the first half, the players returned to the changing room with no goals on the board. The second half again started with Slovácko’s players taking the initiative and, in the 47th minute, Šultes’ solo run brought him face-to-face with Hruška, but he failed to slip the ball past the Příbram goalkeeper. However, as the game continued, the guests changed their line-up, keeping five players back and only one forward; with this stronger defence they were not permitting the home team so many chances. On the other hand, they were also pushing forward more and more often and after one corner kick they launch an attack. The Brazilian de Oliveira jumped on the ball and scored; Příbram were leading. This gave wings to the guests and, to the contrary, it brought the home players to their knees. Unfortunately, this shock brought only a few jolts of energy with only scant goal chances. The reason was that the Příbram players stayed back in defence and also because of the ever more frequent randomness from the boots of the home team. And even with extra time for delays added, time was still running out for Slovácko desperately fast.
